Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante from the screenplay by Geoff Meed, the film tells the story of the infamous Butch Cassidy and his deadly band of outlaws and the Pinkerton detective agency.

It was an outlaw gang that existed in the late 1800s. The loosely organized outlaw gangs operated out of the Hole-in-the-Wall, near Kaycee in Wyoming, Western United States.

Talking to Digital Journal, lead actor Jirgl said, “there is a lot of vague knowledge about these real-life people.” He said people don’t know exactly how these people operated.

Jirgl and VanOver both talked about their new movie and admitted it was one of the most challenging movies to get across the finish line. And yes, they had a really good time.

Ross Jirgl as Butch Cassidy

American actor Jirgl took the role of the title character, Butch Cassidy, in the upcoming action-adventure film.

Born to business executive Susan Jirgl and automotive parts salesman Alan Jirgl in Wausau, Wisconsin, Ross gave up his football career for acting. He has an elder brother Ryan, a football coach.

Prior to entering the entertainment industry, he spent the majority of his early years serving in college athletics. He also played football in the NCAA for Minnesota State.

He then moved to New York City to pursue more training in acting and attended The William Esper Studio.

Jirgl has since appeared in many titles, such as The Chase, Murderville, Gossip Girl, Love Map, and Bodyguard Seduction.

Jilon VanOver as The Sundance Kid

VanOver portrays the role of The Sundance Kid, Butch Cassidy’s closest friend, in the upcoming Western film.

The actor is perhaps best known for playing the role of Ransom Bray in the Emmy Award-winning mini-series, Hatfield & McCoys. He is also notable for appearing in Disney XD’s Mighty Med.

Having been in the industry for over two decades, VanOver has had several guest-starring roles in famous series such as Cold Case, Psych, Lab Rats, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

His voice-over credit includes the 2007 action-thriller film I Am Legend, starring Will Smith. He gave his voice to the post-apocalyptic creatures of the movie.

Nikki Leigh as Etta Place

Leigh is a model, actress, and social media influencer playing the role of Etta Place in Tubi’s upcoming Western film.

She was a gymnast growing up in Orange County, CA. She loved ballet and was the captain of her dance group in High School. Moreover, she is trained in gun handling, stunt driving, and target shooting.

According to her IMDb bio, she made her debut in the drama series “Badass!” in 2011. She has since appeared in multiple films and series such as Unlucky Charms, The Sand, Fearless, and Twisted Vines.

Besides her acting credits, she is notable for hosting a daily hour-long show on Sirius XM. She was a local on-air talent for KDOC and interviewed athletes on Espy’s red carpet for in 2012.

Dee Wallace as Alice Cassidy

Wallace is an American actress known for portraying Mary Taylor in the 1982 blockbuster film E. T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

The Kansas City, Kansas, native is also notable for her starring roles in horror films such as The Howling (1981), The Hills Have Eyes (1977), Cujo (1983), and Critters (1986).

She began her acting career appearing in episodes of The Streets of San Francisco, Police Women, and Starsky & Hutch. She then played in the box-office horror hit film The Hills Have Eyes.

Dee’s most recent credits include portraying Margaret Buckley in 9-1-1, Angela in The Forest Hills, and Lena Swain in Lena’s Dance -all in 2023.

Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch tells the story of the infamous Butch Cassidy and his deadly gang of outlaws.

When Cassidy and his band of outlaws commit a series of high-profile robberies, a posse of guns and seasoned killers working for the legendary Pinkerton Detective Agency are tasked to hunt them down.

The characters of Jirgl, Leigh, and VanOver are involved in the love triangle in the plot. The filming took place during Covid, so the cast members had to tackle a lot of obstacles while shooting.

However, at the end of the day, the cast members were able to focus on the scenes, and “we really got them done well,” said VanOver.

When asked about their favorite part of filming, Jirgl said he enjoyed how he was getting to live in a different world through this film. “I got to throw on clothes from the time period of the 1890s,” he added.

Ferrante’s Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch is set to be released on Friday, March 17, 2023, on Tubi. The western action-adventure film has a running time of 1hr 46m.

The famed outlaw gang is chased by the legendary Pinkerton detectives, tasked with hunting the wily criminals for their heists.

The streaming service released the trailer of the newest film on March 15, 2023. With the drop of the trailer, fans are already excited to watch the movie. One viewer said, “Can’t wait to see this one.”
